Many British recruiting posters of the First World War relied on portraits or dramatic scenes, so this text-only design stands out. Its bold command, "Halt!", is followed by an appeal to men to enter training and help "the boys at the front." Issued by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee in London in 1915, and numbered 45 in its series, it reflects a time when Britain still depended on voluntary enlistment. Conscription did not arrive until 1916, and posters like this one were part of the effort to persuade men to enlist.
