Few posters of the period rely on words alone, and this one, numbered 44 in its series, puts its whole appeal into one line: "carry the fight into the enemy's country." Issued by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee in London and printed in color by David Allen & Sons of Harrow, it probably dates to 1915, when voluntary enlistment was still the main route into the British army. The committee was working to persuade men to join before conscription arrived in 1916. Its message frames enlistment as a way to end the war by taking it abroad rather than waiting for it at home.
