Here the call to action is delivered through the cavalry and its horses, a mounted arm the poster presents as a dash toward victory. Its slogan, "Forward! Forward to victory. Enlist now," was issued in 1915 by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, a body set up that year to boost voluntary enlistment in Britain after the early volunteer surge had slowed. The printer, David Allen & Sons of Harrow, produced many of the recruiting posters of the period. Its series numbering and color lithography reflect the mass production that made such images a common sight on British streets during the First World War.
