Set in plain black lettering with no illustration, this poster relies entirely on its words: "Remember the Lusitania ... Enlist to-day." The Cunard liner was torpedoed by a German U-boat off the Irish coast on 7 May 1915, and about 1,198 people died, including 128 Americans. The Parliamentary Recruiting Committee used that outrage to press men toward the colors, linking public anger directly to a call to enlist. Printed by David Allen & Sons in Harrow, it is one of many wartime posters that turned a single disaster into recruiting pressure.
