Rather than an illustration, this recruiting poster uses a photograph of No. 2 Wykeham Street in Scarborough, taken after the German naval bombardment of December 16, 1914. The caption records that four people died in the house, including a 58-year-old wife and two children, the youngest aged 5. Printed in London in 1915 for the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, the poster turned that damage into a direct appeal to men, citing the 78 women and children killed in the raids. It shows how the bombardment reached ordinary homes far from any battlefield.
