The text of this British recruiting poster, "Another call," carries Lord Kitchener's name and urges more men "until the enemy is crushed." Kitchener, Britain's Secretary of State for War, used his public standing to draw volunteers into the New Army after the country entered the First World War in 1914, when Britain had no large conscript force. Posters like this one, with their direct appeals and bold lettering, were a central tool of that volunteer drive. The record credits the design to "Elk" and the printing to Hill, so the piece also shows the commercial printing trade working in service of the war effort.
