Featuring James Stewart and Donna Reed, this color poster promotes Frank Capra's film made under Liberty Films, the independent company Capra formed in 1945 with George Stevens and William Wyler. Stewart had returned to Hollywood after flying bombers in the Army Air Forces during the war, and in the film he plays George Bailey, a small-town man who comes to believe his life has been a failure. RKO distributed the picture, and though it was only a modest success on release, it later became one of the most beloved American films, especially after television broadcasts in later decades.
