Government hunters pose in camp in the White River National Forest of Rio Blanco County, Colorado, with hides and skins from their catch. Crews like this worked across western national forests in the early twentieth century, when wolves, coyotes, mountain lions and bears were often killed to protect livestock and grazing lands. The National Photo Company, a commercial firm that made pictures for government and railroad clients, produced the print, which dates between 1909 and 1932. It offers a glimpse of the working side of federal land management in the Colorado mountains.
