This ca. 1930 color lithograph advertises a performer named Newmann, billed as "the pioneer mentalist" whose "marvelous show of wonders" was "the marvel of the century." Like many touring magic shows of the period, he relied on large, eye-catching posters to draw crowds in towns he passed through, and printers often produced such designs in bold color for sale to performers. Mentalism, which presents apparent feats of thought reading and mind control, was a popular part of vaudeville-era entertainment, so the poster's boastful language reflects the showmanship of the time.
