The poster promotes "Newmann the Great," billed as "America's master mentalist," and its large color lithograph was printed by the Standard Printing Co. of St. Paul, Minnesota. The record gives no exact date, but bold, multicolor lithographs like this were the standard advertising for touring stage performers in the decades around 1900, when vaudeville and traveling shows drew crowds with claims of mind reading and other wonders. The printing firm's name on the sheet is a useful clue to where such posters were made and how traveling entertainers marketed themselves to small-town audiences.
