Howard Thurston, one of the most celebrated stage magicians of the early twentieth century, is the figure at the center of this lithographic poster, which promises "the wonder show of the universe." The caption, "Magic gets the best of nature, and mixes things up a bit," points to the show's playful spirit, and the chickens listed among the subjects hint at the animal tricks that were part of his act. The poster was printed in New York by the National Printing & Engraving Company around 1925, when touring illusion shows drew large crowds and bold color lithography was the standard way to advertise them.
