Howard Thurston's name leads this Cleveland-printed poster, which bills his touring show as "The Wonder Show of the Earth." Thurston was one of the most celebrated American stage magicians of the early twentieth century, known for large-scale illusions that drew crowds to theaters across the country. The Otis Lithograph Company, a Cleveland firm, produced many colorful theatrical posters of this kind. The subject headings also list demons, a reminder that sensational, otherworldly imagery was a common way to sell an evening of spectacle in that era.
