A portrait of the Rev. Harley Metcalf, dated July 12, 1929, is the subject of this glass negative. The date comes from a related negative in the same series, and the title was recorded from information written on the negative or its sleeve. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., commercial studio active in the early twentieth century, made the image, and Herbert A. French gave the collection to the Library of Congress in 1947. The glass shows streaks and blemishes from deterioration of its original coating, which affects how the image looks today.
