Rice W. Means, Wm. M. Butler and Jesse H. Metcalf are the three men named in this glass negative dated December 1, 1924. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio known for portraits of officials and public figures, made the picture, and the names come from the studio's own notes, which have not been independently verified. Butler and Metcalf both sat in the U.S. Senate during the 1920s. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the natural breakdown of its original coating, so some fine detail may be lost.
