Two Republican senators, William M. Butler of Massachusetts and Charles Curtis of Kansas, are pictured together in this portrait dated December 1, 1924, a few weeks after that year's national election. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded officials, visitors and events in the capital for decades, made the negative. The names and date come from the company's own sleeve and have not been independently verified. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from deterioration of the original coating, not from the scene itself.
