Four Republican senators posed together for this December 1924 portrait, made as Congress was gathering for its winter session. Charles Curtis of Kansas, the best known of the group, later served as vice president under Herbert Hoover. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented officials and events in the capital in the early twentieth century, made the negative, and its streaks and blemishes reflect the natural deterioration of the original glass coatings.
