Charles G. Dawes and Mrs. Dawes appear in this glass negative, dated July 1, 1924 in the photographer's caption data. That summer Dawes was the Republican nominee for vice president, a post he took the following spring alongside Calvin Coolidge. The National Photo Company, based in Washington, D.C., documented many officials and public figures in these years. The negative shows streaks and blemishes typical of glass plates whose coatings have deteriorated, which softens the image compared with a print made from a fresh plate.
