A glass negative titled "Mrs. Lincoln" records an inaugural dress from the First Ladies Collection, with the date given as September 3, probably in 1924. The gown was displayed as a relic of Mary Todd Lincoln, whose husband took office as president in 1861. The National Photo Company, a Washington commercial studio active in the early twentieth century, made many such documentary views of museum objects for public use. Visible streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the natural breakdown of the original emulsion coatings.
