Herzog Furniture Co. of Saginaw, Michigan, is the subject of this 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative, made between 1900 and 1910 and marked No. 136. Saginaw was a busy lumber and manufacturing city on the Saginaw River in those years, and furniture making was one of the industries that gave it a name. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this view, was known for commercial photographs of towns, factories and scenery, and its glass negatives show how such works looked at the turn of the century. The plate was given to the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949.
