Hoyt Park in Saginaw, Michigan, is recorded here in an 8 by 10 inch glass negative made around 1908. The Detroit Publishing Company produced large numbers of views like this one of American towns, parks, and streets in the early 1900s, and it sold the images as postcards and printed views to a national market. Its catalog offered a snapshot of how a midsize Michigan city presented its public green spaces at the time. The negative's later history, including its 1949 gift to the State Historical Society of Colorado, shows how the company's archive spread beyond its original home.
