Few buildings are tied as closely to the end of the Revolution as the stone Hasbrouck House in Newburgh, New York, where Washington made his headquarters. The title gives 1777, but the house is documented as his base from April 1782 to August 1783, when the army camped nearby and the officers' unrest culminated in the Newburgh Addresses. This engraving, copyrighted by B. Hollyer and dated c1909, shows the house as an early twentieth-century artist rendered it, during a period of growing interest in Revolutionary sites. Treat the 1777 date with caution, since the record itself flags its data as unverified.
