The record pairs Herbert Hoover with Charles G. Dawes on November 5, 1929, though that title comes from unverified notes written by the National Photo Company. Dawes had served as vice president under Calvin Coolidge and shared the 1925 Nobel Peace Prize for his work on Germany's reparations payments. The glass negative shows streaks and blemishes from the natural breakdown of its original coating, a common condition in plates of this age. It came to the Library of Congress in 1947 as a gift from Herbert A. French, as part of the National Photo Company Collection.
