A small sixth-plate daguerreotype in a beehive-pattern case shows William Bradhurst, son of Samuel, in a head-and-shoulders pose turned slightly to the right. The name Anson, with an address at 589 Broadway in New York, is stamped on the brass mat and embossed inside the case, which points to where the case was sold. Beehive cases were molded from a composition material and were a popular style in the 1850s. Each daguerreotype is a single unique image on a silvered copper plate, which is why such portraits look so sharp and mirror-like when tilted in the light.
