A head-and-shoulders portrait of T. C. P. Bradhurst, identified in the catalog as Thomas Cornell Pearsall Bradhurst (died 1889), shows him seated and turned slightly to the right. The sixteenth-plate daguerreotype was taken at the Quinby studio at 385 Broadway in New York, as the stamped brass mat indicates, and it dates to between 1850 and 1860. Daguerreotypes are unique positive images on silvered copper, and this one survives in its original case with a scroll design and a central oval motif. The Library of Congress received it in 1997 as a gift from the family of William B. Osgood Field.
