Three vertical sheets join here into one continuous garden scene, a format that let Edo-period printmakers spread a landscape across a far wider field than a single oban sheet allowed. The title, *Fūki kusa sono no yūran*, points to the pleasures of a flower garden, a subject that suited the mid-nineteenth century, when townspeople in Edo enjoyed strolling among cultivated plants and seasonal blooms. Made by multi-block color woodcut, each sheet carries its own colors and outlines, so the joins between panels reward a close look at how the composition carries from one sheet to the next.
