A samurai on horseback is the subject here, shown mid-stride with his mount and armor rendered in the bold outlines and flat color fields typical of Japanese woodblock printing. Prints of mounted warriors drew on a long tradition of battle imagery, and by the late 1800s they were widely sold to a public fascinated by the vanishing world of the samurai after the Meiji Restoration ended the warrior class's political role. Look closely at the carved lines of the horse's mane and the patterned textiles, which show how skilled carvers translated brush-like gestures into repeatable printed form. The title identifies the subject but says little about the artist, so attribution beyond the general genre remains uncertain.
