The record gives one clue about this negative: its title, *Sultana*, which may name a person, animal, vessel, or place, but the record does not say which. The glass plate measures 8 by 10 inches and dates to 1897, when dry-plate negatives like this one were the standard way to make large, sharp photographs. The Detroit Publishing Company, which produced many views of the American West and other regions, is credited only tentatively here, based on the style of the title and numbering. The negative came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
