Titled *Satanella*, this 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative is dated August 4, 1895, though the title is an attribution drawn from the style of its lettering and numbering rather than from anything in the image itself. The name points to Michael William Balfe's opera *Satanella*, a romantic work that premiered in London in 1858 and remained popular on the Victorian stage. The negative carries Detroit Publishing Company number 022045, placing it within that company's large body of American views, and it entered the collection as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
