Perched on a rise above Oyster Bay on Long Island, this is Sagamore Hill, the home Theodore Roosevelt built and returned to for much of his life. The picture ran in *Town & Country* in June 1902, when Roosevelt was in his first full year as president, and the spread gave readers a view of a estate that was already becoming a well-known retreat from Washington. The halftone process, which let photographs print on the same page as type, was still fairly new to popular magazines, and it helped make images of public figures' homes familiar to a national audience.
