Few presidential homes show a president's personal taste as plainly as this porch at Sagamore Hill, Theodore Roosevelt's home in Oyster Bay, New York. The mountain lion skin spread across the floor points to Roosevelt's lifelong love of hunting and the outdoors, a passion that shaped much of his public image. Sagamore Hill was his family's main residence from 1885 until his death in 1919, and the rustic trophies gathered there reflect a man who saw the wilderness as central to American character. The photograph dates to about 1905, during his first full term in office.
