Sagamore Hill, the Oyster Bay, New York, home of Theodore Roosevelt, is the subject here, shown on a stereograph card published around 1904 by the War Photograph and Exhibition Company. Roosevelt bought the property in 1885 and spent much of his later life there, and he was president when this card was made. Stereo views like this one were sold in sets and viewed through a double-lens device that gave a three-dimensional effect, so the house was presented to a wide public as a glimpse of the president's private life. The card is a useful record of how the estate looked at the height of his national fame.
