Posed on the porch of Sagamore Hill, Theodore Roosevelt's home in Oyster Bay on Long Island, this group portrait shows the president with the men assigned to guard him, with flags hanging nearby. Roosevelt had built the house in the 1880s, and it served as his retreat from Washington during his presidency. The Secret Service had taken on regular protection of the president only after William McKinley's assassination in 1901, so the picture captures that early period of the arrangement. The copyright notice credits H. Morris, whose name appears on the record.
