This hand-colored lithograph shows Mlle. Cassegrain in costume for *Marco Spada*, a work named in its title. It was drawn and lithographed by Alophe and printed by Auguste Bry, and it appeared as number 8 in *Les danseuses de l'Opéra*, a series of costume plates issued under the Les Modes parisiennes imprint. Such plates were popular in mid-century Paris, when fashion publishers marketed images of celebrated dancers and their stage dress to a public eager for the Opéra. The print's date is uncertain and is given in the record only as about 1850. Its costume details offer a useful view of how stage dress was designed and colored during the period.
