Titled in German as an appeal to subscribe to the Eighth War Loan, this 1918 lithograph is signed by the Austrian artist Alf. Offner. The record tags it with girls, coins and charity, which points to a common wartime theme: presenting bond purchases as a patriotic duty for ordinary households, with children and small savings held up as examples. By 1918 Austria-Hungary was deep into a costly war and relied heavily on such loans to finance its military, so the poster shows how the state sold public debt to its citizens as sacrifice and civic virtue.
