Druid Hill Park, one of Baltimore's largest public parks, is the subject of this stereograph, issued by W.M. Chase and dated around 1880. The city acquired the grounds, once part of a large private estate, in the 1860s and developed them into a landscaped park with wooded hills, meadows, and water. Stereo cards like this one were sold widely in the late 19th century, so that viewers could see distant places in three dimensions through a hand viewer. The card's caption and details come from older records and have not been fully verified.
