This view shows the Chicago Coliseum, a large indoor arena on the South Side that drew crowds for political conventions, sports, and exhibitions in the early 1900s. The glass negative comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, the archive of the Bain News Service, a wire photo agency that supplied pictures to newspapers from about 1900 into the 1920s. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption information the agency recorded at the time, so the exact year and occasion remain unconfirmed. The building's scale and its place in the city's public life make it worth a close look.
