The Chicago Coliseum was one of the largest indoor halls in the city, known for political conventions, boxing matches, and livestock shows. The 1904 Republican National Convention, which nominated Theodore Roosevelt, was held there. This exterior view comes from the Bain News Service, a commercial photo agency whose glass negatives record Chicago and other American cities in the early twentieth century. The record does not give a date, so the exact year the photograph was taken is unknown. The building's large facade and street setting still show how public gatherings of that era were staged in the city.
