Wabash Avenue and 15th Street was home to the Coliseum, a large exhibition hall that drew crowds for conventions, expositions, and public events in the early 1900s. The Detroit Publishing Company, a commercial firm known for its color and black-and-white views of American cities and landscapes, made this image as a large-format glass negative, and the company's catalog number is printed on it. Its tall, plain street front shows the scale that made the building a fixture of the city's public life in that period.
