Few sightseeing vehicles of the period announced their purpose as plainly as this one, which is labeled Seeing Chicago and stands at Monroe Street near State. Sightseeing motor tours were a fairly new way to see a city in the early 1900s, and this vehicle carries visitors past the busy commercial blocks of the Loop. The Detroit Publishing Company, which produced large glass-plate views of American towns, landmarks and scenic spots for sale to travelers and publishers, made many scenes like this one between 1900 and 1915.
