A tree-lined drive curves past the Field Museum of Natural History in Jackson Park on Chicago's South Side, as it appeared around 1907. The museum had occupied the white Palace of Fine Arts, a survivor of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, since 1894, and the park's lawns and lagoons were laid out for that fair by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued views like this across the country, recorded the scene on 8 x 10 inch glass dry plate negatives, two close variants of which survive, and one has a crack in its upper right corner. The photographer may have been Hans Behm.
