Jackson Park, on Chicago's South Side, is best known as the grounds of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, and this view of one of its pavilions dates to about 1907, when the park had settled into everyday use as a lakeside public space. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued photographs and postcards of American cities and scenery in the early twentieth century, made the 8 by 10 inch glass negative, and the record notes that Hans Behm may have taken the picture. Negatives of this size recorded fine detail, so the pavilion's architecture and its surroundings can be studied closely.
