The Coliseum on Wabash Avenue hosted many of Chicago's largest political gatherings, and this glass negative, dated June 17, 1912, is tied to that building through its title, which names Arthur Brown as the Coliseum's architect. The Bain News Service title is unverified, so the caption alone does not confirm who appears in the frame. The date falls just before the Republican National Convention opened in the hall on June 18, when reporters and crowds packed the city. The Bain collection, assembled from the work of a New York news photography service, preserves many plates like this one, which offer a candid view of early twentieth-century public life.
