Tah-chee is shown in dress that the record singles out for attention, rendered in this hand-colored lithograph by A. Newsam and published in Philadelphia by E. C. Biddle around 1837. It belongs to a wave of prints that carried images of Native leaders to eastern audiences while the Cherokee were being pushed west under the Indian Removal Act of 1830. Cherokee warriors had fought beside United States forces at Horseshoe Bend in 1814, which gives the portrait added weight on this board.
