Drawn in ink and watercolor wash, this 1817 plan shows the attic story of the Capitol's north wing, with the Senate Chamber, a General Lobby of Communication, and rooms set aside for the temporary accommodation of the Library labeled in place. The draftsman, F.C. de Krafft, worked in the office of Benjamin Henry Latrobe, the architect charged with rebuilding the Capitol after British troops burned it in 1814. Latrobe resigned in 1817, the same year the plan was made, so the drawing captures a building still being reshaped under changing leadership.
