Few sheets show the Capitol's roof in this much detail. This August 1807 set of ink and watercolor designs lays out the roof of the North Wing as it was proposed to be carried up that year. Benjamin Henry Latrobe, then serving as Surveyor of the Public Buildings, signed the drawing and included plan, elevation, and section views along with a study of proportions for the cupola. The North Wing housed the House of Representatives, so its roof affected the chamber below. These designs reflect Latrobe's broader effort to finish the building after years of slow progress and changing plans.
