A single sheet gathers six numbered views of the Capitol's north wing: plans of the dome and principal story, a staircase plan, two sections through the staircase and the Senate's central lobby, and an elevation of the dome's top. Drawn to a scale of 8 feet to an inch, it records interior and structural detail at a level meant for construction. The drawing dates from between 1803 and 1814, when Benjamin Henry Latrobe, as surveyor of public buildings, was directing work on the wing. British troops set fire to the Capitol in August 1814, damaging much of that work.
