This sheet shows the vestibule of the Senate chamber in the United States Capitol, drawn as both a plan and a section, so it records the room's floor layout and its height and profile in a single view. The inscription "for Mr. Blagden" indicates it was prepared as a working document for the builder who would carry out the construction. Benjamin Henry Latrobe, the architect in charge of the Capitol, produced it during the rebuilding that followed the British burning of the building in 1814. Its pen-and-wash finish, typical of Latrobe's office, makes it a useful record of how the interior was being reconstructed.
