Seen from across the Detroit River in Windsor, Ontario, this night view turns the city's skyline into a field of scattered lights along the water. Capturing such a scene on a glass dry plate required long exposures, so the image reflects the technical limits of the period as much as the city itself. The Detroit Publishing Company, a commercial firm active in the early 1900s, produced thousands of views of American cities and towns, and this negative is one of its surviving records.
