This view singles out a single boat, the Laneta, owned by a Bayless and moored at the Detroit Motor Boat Club, where the record places it in Detroit, Michigan. Dating to sometime between 1900 and 1915, the glass-plate negative comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers documented the city's streets, waterfront and leisure life in that period. Early gasoline-powered launches like this one were a novelty then, and clubs on the Detroit River gave their owners a place to keep, service and show off these fast new craft.
