This panorama, pieced together from two large glass negatives, shows the Detroit Boat Club clubhouse on Belle Isle, an island park in the Detroit River. The city's leisure grounds there drew rowing and sailing clubs out onto the water, and the moored sailboats in the picture show that pastime. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sold views of American cities and landscapes around 1905, made the image on its 18 by 22 inch mammoth plates. The wide format lets the viewer take in the club, its boats and the shoreline in a single scene.
